So you want to start motor racing - but you’re concerned by the size of the budget and how you might perform…

It’s true, some motor racing can be like burning the contents of bank vaults – and some motor sport can be outrageously aggressive. But not necessarily ….

A weekend’s car racing with Martindale Motorsport involving practice, qualifying, a three, four, six or even 25 hour race plus full hospitality for you and your friends can cost than the price of a Grand Prix hospitality package.

We put you through your racing driver’s course, help you source your race gear, get you prepared for an endurance race in which you share a car with up to three friends or colleagues – although two of you is something special - and all you have to do is get yourself to the circuit.

During the race you each do 30-minute stints, get involved in the excitement of pit stops that could win or lose you positions, and you race against people who are mainly of similar ability to you.

Meanwhile, what if you’re a business, and one day you can pick up a phone and ask a valued client or hot prospect if they’d like to join your racing team – and compete? Martindale can put you in that position.

You can drive a Martindale Motorsport car in the Fun Cup www.funcup.co.uk from £1,250.

All you have to do is turn up and race with people who most likely possess a pretty similar ability to yours..

Racing: a scary thought, huh? Well, of course it is!

That’s the idea – it’s a sport full of adrenaline. You’re challenging yourself as much as racing the guys – and girls – around you.

The key to the Fun Cup is that all the cars are evenly matched - unlike in other branches of motor-sport, success is dictated by the quality of car and driver preparation - and race strategies. The engines are sealed and tamper proof, so can’t be tuned for more power.

“There’s always going to be some adrenaline pumping, but for the novice it’s far less intimidating than a short and sharp sprint race, because the long races and big fields mean there’ll always be someone of similar or equal ability to race against,” said Phil Martindale.

“Most of our drivers find that they can improve their pace by anything between two and ten seconds a lap during the course of a race, maybe because they suddenly find they click, possibly because they latch on to somebody slightly faster, or simply because they find more time and pace over three or four hours racing.

“You can jump in the cars and have a go straight away,” he explains. “You don’t need to be massively skilled, the engine and transmission are from a road car after all. The good thing is that wherever you finish in a race gives you a good indication of how good you are,” said Phil Martindale.

But don’t forget: it may be your first race, but it’s also the first race for as many as half the drivers racing that weekend.
